  • Property Advice after Divorce please

I have recently divorced my husband of 17 years (online divorce). We have 2 children aged 20 & 15 both in full time education. We own a house which we are both named on the deeds. My ex moved out of the marital home on 11th February, we were divorced on 21st february. My ex husband did not financially contribute to the household for the last 10 years of the marriage/mortgage. The mortgage was a 15 year mortgage which is paid off in 7 months time. He would not seek financial help when unemployed and would not contribute when working as a self employed person. What are my rights regarding the marital home given the fact I can prove his lack of income and I can prove I paid all the bills from my full time employment and I was the primary caregiver to the children and I did all the cooking / cleaning / decorating etc.

It certainly is but everyone here is a volunteer. It may be that noone has the answer to your question. I am certain that someone will come along and advise you to consult a solicitor as this is a complex area. I have no experience in Family law so unfortunately cannot assist though I wish you well.

I am awaiting a callback from a couple of solicitors, I was trying to get ahead of the game as financially I cannot afford for this to be a long drawn out process. I have been trying to read up on line in regard to law on the subject, which as you say is complex.

Have you had a Decree Absolute issued by a Court or do you need to apply for this with an online divorce?

What advice did you received regarding a financial order of assets? Have you agreed to a financial settlement or discussed this as your entitlement my still exist
