I have recently been informed of my daughter’s birth (she was born 5 months ago). Firstly my ex said she wanted me to be part of our daughters life and upbringing although due to events in our previous relationship I am not totally sure I am the biological father and I am unsure at this stage whether I am on the Birth certificate. If If she has already placed me on the Birth certificate and is unwilling to undergo a paternity test after I raise the subject what are my options?

    Hi Zucco

You may find this link, and this site in general, extremely helpful:

    http://www.fnf.org.uk/law-and-information/paternity-law

Unless you are named on the birth certificate, or have formally adopted the child, or have a positive DNA test then it would appear you have no parental rights at all. I believe (and FNF may be helpful on this) that under certain circumstances the Courts can order a test. IMVHO it would be best if you can regain the trust of your ex so that she will see that this would be in the baby's best interests.

A free half hour with a Resolution accredited solicitor would probably also be
    worthwhile.

Wishing you all the very best with this.
