  • As a last resort - what are my rights?

I am currently 30 weeks pregnant, when the baby's father found out about the pregnancy he basically ran away, and is now with another woman. I am receiving abusive phone calls from them both at all hours of the night, and now he is demanding DNA. I have no problem with allowing a DNA test, and would love him to be part of the baby's life. However, the pair of them are now using meth amphetamines on a regular basis, and I do not want him around the baby on drugs. If it comes to it, now I hope it doesn't, am I within my rights to refuse him access to his child? What procedure would I need to follow? This is something I don't want to have to do, but would like to be armed with the knowledge at the very least if it comes to it

Congratulations on your forthcoming happy event

Regarding the father you say you "would love him to be part of the baby's life", but you "do not want him around the baby on drugs"

Do you expect him to give up his drug habit?

Do you expect him to be named on the birth register, and so automatically get parental rights?

If he doesn't want anything to do with the child, I'm afraid you'll be struggling to get any maintenance or support from him.

If he insists on being part of the babe's life, and you still have concerns, insist on the contact is under supervision.
