  • Not sure where to place this. Domestic or criminal

The neighbour I have been helping with his easement dispute has had an incident, the neighbours brother started calling him names and then pushed him, this gentleman is elderly and having had 7 brain tumours removed I would say is vulnerable. the brother also raised his fist to strike him but was stopped by another neighbour. The police attended, but stated that it was a domestic so nothing can be done.
My question is, as brother who does not live at the property and has no relationship with my friend, can this be called domestic. I would have thought it was criminal, assault and threatening behaviour. your views please.

"Domestic" violence is just as much a criminal offence as "non-domestic" violence. The assailant being the victim's brother is not a reason for the police to do nothing and the officers who attended should have known that "it's a domestic" is no longer an acceptable police reason for inaction.

Your neighbour should make a formal complaint about his treatment by the attending officers. The procedure to follow will be on their website
All opinions expressed are based on my personal experience. I am not a lawyer and do not hold any legal qualifications.

Thank you for that advice, sorry I did not intend to demean " domestic violence" I was trying to differentiate between a domestic and non domestic incident. But came out wrong
