  • Separating from my partner. Am I entitled to anything.

Hi, can I get some help pls.

I’ve been with my partner for almost 30 years. He owned a shop when we meet. We’ve had 3 kids, and have opened more business and bought houses. Now I’ve never worked, only for my partner in the businesses. He hasn’t always paid me but has started to lately. Am I entitled to anything because our situation has become unbearable and he keeps telling me I’m entitled to nothing as I’ve never worked or contributed but I have. I’ve worked in every business we’ve had since we’ve been together, even rearing the children as well. I want to leave but after 30 I’ve nothing. What can I do?

I assume from your post that you never married but please can you confirm that.

Also you refer to "we" have opened more business and bought houses. So are any houses or business premises you currently have owned in your joint names?
All opinions expressed are based on my personal experience. I am not a lawyer and do not hold any legal qualifications.

No never married. No nothing in my name. He made sure of that. Apart from I’m down as ceo on our rental business.

No all under the business name which I’m ceo of. Surely I should be entitled to something. How do people walk off with half of somebody else house? I’ve helped him build everything he has. He might have paid for it under his name but I’ve worked in them all and most times haven’t been paid.
