  • Parental responsibility?!

so i have a friend who's currently really struggling with their education & home life. they are non-binary & their family does not accept them in the slightest, and they dropped out of school before their gcses and havent been able to take the exams. the problem is, theyre struggling greatly with their mental health and feel like they can't really get anywhere

i offered to take them in in my home with my family, as they would be more accepted and there is a college not far from me (they live on the other side of the country) that would allow them to take their english and maths gcses now, rather than at 19 which is the current situation. but their mum has a statement meaning she has legal responsibility over them until they turn 25.

is there a way for my mum to share that parental responsibility over them with their mum, preferably for free? i've looked a lot online and there seem to be conflicting rules,, some things say any adult can share parental responsibility while others say that only partners or relatives can, i'm very confused
