  • Age and Relationships

    Hi,

I am seeking some concrete answers and thought this would be the best place.

Question 1: What age are you an adult in England?

Question 2: Is it legal for a 30 year old male to be in a relationship (involving sex) with a 16 year old female in England?

    Thank you.

    1. 18

    2. Yes, the legal age for consensual sex is 16, however morally wrong it might be viewed. However, that may not be the case if the 30 year old is in a position of trust e.g. teacher, carer etc.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

So I legally can’t stop my 16 year old daughter having a relationship with a 30 year old man?

Well, whether you can legally stop your daughter from seeing a 30 year old man is not the same as whether it is illegal to have sex with a 30 year old man.

You can try to stop her, but if she wants to have a sexual relationship of her own volition, I'm not sure there is much you can do, at least from a legal perspective anyway.
