How do we go about challenging the councils charges regarding reablement care? My dad has dementia and was in hospital for 3 weeks with sepsis. We weren't told about any charges even though we asked. We also weren't given the opportunity to arrange his care if need be. We would done more ourselves as the carers they sent round were a bunch of clowns. It seems quite a few councils are illegally charging for this. What is the criteria for getting this 6 week care?

Hello had something similar, I had a stroke in December 2017 and was offered early discharge team which included " re enablement" care. The Stroke support team were wonderful and actually continued to come for 12 weeks.
Although the Council team were very good I would not call it " re enablement" and it wasn't until almost two weeks was told that was it and unless I agree to have an agency that would be it and I would be charged at full rate . I refused the agency as it would have been an 18 year old male. Bearing in mind I had not had any information regarding charges I was told they would review and let me know, fast forward to December last year and I got a bill for over £90.00 for just over five hours so called care. I did a financial assessment and did get this back but it took them six months. Suggest you get hold of Age UK in your area who helped me and they know all the benefits and help your Dad may be entitled too,. Hope all goes well xxLast edited by dogtired; 27th June 2019, 16:10:PM.Never give up, Never surrender.
