  • Started new Job - next day offer withdrawn !

    Hi all

I'm a Senior Construction Manager with almost 30 years experience in Construction site management in London and Essex

I received a phone call from an Agency asking me if i wanted to work for BOVIS on a temp basis, meaning Saturdays only, I said i would, they asked me to email them my certificates and references ASAP.

Next day the Agency offered me the position by way of "Candidate Assignment Confirmation" email. With this email they were please to tell me that BOVIS would like me to start on the Saturday. I had the Day Rate of £290 a day and my working Hours 7.30am to 5.00pm

I had to go to the site the next day for an informal chat and after speaking with the Manager i was asked to start at 7.30 on Saturday

On the way back to london, about an Hour after speaking with the site manger, I get a call from the agency telling me they have found someone in house, so not to go??

That Day Cost me £209.76 In Train and Taxi Fares and 4 hours of my time. I have seen this online https://www.icaew.com/en/library/sub...costs-employer

and since i had a contract via email would this apply to me ?? The Bottom of the Email states " Great to have you on Board" which proves to me i had the job, and that was indeed a contract of Employment

I have invoiced the Company with the amount of £209.76 which covers all my out of pocket expenses but with no luck, They don't reply to my Emails or Return my Calls

Whats my next step if any ?? disgusting way for an Agency to treat employees, can't let this one get away with that

            Hi,

I sent the agency an invoice from my limited company for the cost of my time and travelling expenses, they didn't respond until i asked for their Directors Name so i could put on the Small Claims forms.

They finally agreed to payment they say "Out of good will" but theirs no good will when i was out of pocket going to the job after i was offered it.

I was going to go down the industrial tribunal for breach of contract, but to be honest, i'm fed up with it all, at least i managed to claim back my expenses
