No contract but change in hours

Hi I work in retail for 4 months
I was never given a contract but was employed under verbal agreement with the manager to work 16 hours a week the manager left and the new manager has dropped My hours to 8 she says this what I'm contracted for but I have never seen the contract

Having worked 16 hours a week suggests that these are your contracted hours; and your employer is in breach of s.1 ERA 1996 for failing to give you a written contract within 2 months.

BUT, as you only have 4 months of service, your employer could simply dismiss you for no reason at all. So, accepting the change and/or looking for another job are likely to be your only options.
