  • Can employer terminate my contract?

Hi, I am hoping someone may be able to advise on an ongoing issue with my employer. The company want to terminate the weekend shift, most employees are a member of a union and we did a union ballot that voted against the change, it is also in our contract that we work on the weekend. Regardless of the union ballot the company are saying they ares till terminating the weekend shift and we can either move to the week shift or have our contracts terminated, it isn't not possible for me and some of my colleagues to move to the week shift due to childcare, can they terminate our contracts.? Thank you very much in advance for your support and advice

    Are they offering you redundancy?

      Hi,

Thank you very much for your response, they have said if we do not agree to the new contract they will have to terminate our contract and we may apply for voluntary redundancy. The changes are due to take place at the end of August and we still have not had an official letter.

If we are forced to request voluntary redundancy do we still have a case for constructive dismissal? Also if I am unable to find a job would I be entitled to jobseekers allowance if I have made myself redundant?

Thank you again for your help and sorry for all the further questions, it is a very stressful time.

      Thanks

Companies are for the shareholders, not the employees!, Just look at BHS!

There is some logic in this, but in this life there are those who lose as well as those who win!

        Who said life is fair?

Indeed life is not fair, however I want to ensure that the company is playing by the rules.

Any further advice would be very welcome ,thank you
