Hi there
I joined the site due to an employment issue that has only just arisen, I'm not immensely experienced at internet forums so please bear with me.
I work for a large company that has branches and offices in most UK towns and cities, have worked there for just over three years and was recently promoted. A few weeks ago my wife and I made the decision to move and therefore I inquired with my line manager about transferring to another branch in the town I was moving to. He looked into it and set up a meeting with myself and the boss in the new branch. I met with him and we got on, I agreed to take the position he offered me (identical to my current job) and we set up at start date of 25th April. I would leave my current branch on the 17th April to give me a little time to move house and help my wife as she is 33 weeks pregnant.
My boss was happy and started interviewing for my replacement, my new boss was happy and started preparing his staff for my arrival and I was happy as I had a role to go into when I moved.
Then, on the 9th April, after a leaving party thrown for me, I sleepwalked down my stairs and broke my ankle.
I am in a boot for six weeks and then I will need to rehab before I can return to work. I spoke to my new boss and he can no longer guarantee my position, due to one of his assistant managers leaving and more managers joining from other branches.
My old boss has promoted one of my friends into my old position and I now suddenly find myself facing unemployment. My company is struggling to figure out what to do so has anybody experienced something like this?
Do I go on statutory sick? Get made redundant? Its not my fault I broke my ankle but it's not the company's fault either.
Any ideas?
Thanks
