Hello, I recently had a meeting with my manager where she expressed she is not happy with my performance at work. Some of her points I have to agree with but many others I don't. My main issue with the meeting is that she gave me an ultimatum. She said I have to make a decision and that I have three choices 1. Immediate improvement 2. Resignation 3. Disciplinary action. some people have expressed to me that this is not allowed. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks!

No they must allow you time to improve your performance, this can be done by holding regular performance reviews. Plus if you have not been subjected to any previous warnings the worst to expect from any disciplinary outcome would be a final written warning.

Heres is ACAS guide on how to manage employee performance - http://www.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=2927

Employers should follow similar procedures, and its highly likely they have a policy for such in the company hand book too!

You could also issue a grievance against the manager for failing to follow the performance review procedure and basically attempting to force you out by giving you said ultimatum, which may itself amount to constructive dismissal and could be deemed as bullying. Have you had problems with this manager before?

Also how long have you worked for the company?
