I am a shift supervisor in a company and my store manager told me that since i am a young man that I need to do more work then the elderly man in our department. He also told me that if I did not that they would find someone else who would. Is this any kind of discrimination ? I dont understand how he can tell me that since i am young and male that my work load should be more and threaten to demote me or fire me if I did not comply.
Is this a gender discrimination?

I don't see how its gender discrimination as per the title of the thread.
The point your manager was making is your elderly colleague is older and therefore clearly less able than you and therefore can not perform all the duties adequately, safely, or in a timely fashion as someone much younger, like yourself. It would be unreasonable to expect an elderly employee to perform as many duties as a younger employee, and its likewise unreasonable for a younger employee to expect less duties just because their elderly colleague gets given less duties. Yes if your not up to performing your contractual duties or reasonable requests made by your manager you can be disciplined for performance and demoted or even dismissed.
Also as a store supervisor its natural for you to have more duties then others below you as you have more responsibility on your shoulders as a result of your position in the company.Please note that this advice is given informally, without liability and without prejudice.
