  • Problem with tax

    Hi there,
I left my previous employer on 2nd April, and had my final pay through today from this. However, I have not had any tax deducted from this pay. My new employer has already paid me on 15th April and taxed me.

Does this pay from my old employer 'need taxing'?

    Thanks,
    Phil

Ring Hmrc and check, they may want you to fill in a tax return . Have fun.

Not sure but if your last pay packet (showing my age) corresponded with the end of the Tax year you may have been owed tax/ Overpaid during the year and therefore your last pay of the tax year and the amount due was adjusted resulting in no tax being taken.
Do spend an hour or two on their automated system if it helps you sleep innocently but you can be sure that if anything is owed they will catch up with you eventually and waiting for them to get in touch will not make you a criminal. If you are afraid they will take a huge chunk out of a future pay packet then get it cleared up now before you start treating yourself!
