  • Completely honest or rude?

Had this email from a recruiter today when I asked for more specific feedback, instead of a template based response:

    "Dear Mr $quandaŁot
I use a template response because I receive so many applications and prefer to at least respond to candidates unlike so many other recruitment consultants.
If you want specific feedback, I interviewed you in the past and found your performance as an interviewee unsatisfactory in order to represent you to my clients who trust my judgement.
I hope this is more helpful to you.
    Regards
    Clare"

I could say that at least she's honest. However, I think her response is a borderline rude email.

I believe I met her briefly in 2008. She must have been really upset and disappointed with me!

I guess that is the risk you take if you don't want generic, bland feedback.

I wouldn't regard it as rude, though.

Hope you have found something since then.

I agree., I think it's just straight to the point, no frills or false flattery.
It's nice to see someone who does actually respond to applicants, as they say so many don't.

They used better words than I would have its rude if you want it to be rude ,Template letters must by there nature appear to be rather neutral

I reckon the key here is having asked for more specific feedback, in which case you got exactly what you asked for, a very specific response that was honest and to the point. Most template responses are worded so they don't sound rude or offensive and often encourage you to apply again in the future because you may well be suitable for another position.

Sounds like a personality clash which is not uncommon. What I find a little surprising is that she should remember an interview in 2008 when she's probably interviewed hundreds of applicants since then! Either she is a very pedantic person or there was something you said or did that she strongly disagreed with at that interview. Either way, I wouldn't give it a second thought, there are gzillions of recruiters out there and you can't like everyone or be liked by everyone. There are often disagreements even on these sites where, for the most part, we don't get to meet, yet some people just don't like the way you post! It happens! :ohwell:

I think the problem is time, in this day of the internet, jobs boards, linked in etc it is all to easy for people to apply for lots of jobs that they are neither suitable for or even qualifed to perform. I was speaking with a recuriter today and he was saying that for a job he was recently advertising he had recived over 300 applications, each CV needs to be reviewed against the job spec and the relevant ones forwarded onto the client. If 300 plus people then come back and ask for feedback what work will the agent actually get done?

Perhaps take on the feedback that you were given (whether palletable or not) and learn from it rather than feeling picked on.
