New Job, A bit unhappy about one of the clauses.....

there is a clause in the contract which basically means I am not allowed to be indirectly or directly engaged, concerned or interested in any other business or occupation whatsoever, Which i think is a bit unfair, I currently have a small freelance job which the other owner of the business relys on me to do and i can't just cut him off, but has absolutely nothing to do with my new job or even in the same industry.
I am a web developer so it is within our nature to take on jobs outside of our full time work, as i sometimes help out on other projects, not only for money but to increase knowledge.

Do you think I should raise this issue with them? or keep quiet? i don't see how they can find out?

maybe some advice on how i should approach this with my new job? i don't want to compromise anything.

I don't think the burying your head in the sand tatic is the way forward, for one its not proffessional.

Why don't you just explain to them that you cant accept the clause the way its writtten an proppose that its is either removed or changed so that you can work for others but when working for them you are dedicated their needs?

ok cool well i only do work for one either private client who unfortunately will only trust me to work on their servers but has never affected my other jobs, because i work on it evenings and some weekends. and the other client is just a charity which i don't get paid for, and its a small project.

Better to be straight from the start ask them to remove the Condition before you sign

yeah i am writing them a long email explaining i just have two ongoing projects which wont affect my job there at all,

Best thing to do be Honest with them if they don't move on this you may have to refuse the job or try a compromise

yeah i know, but it is a pretty nice job, I have told them i am willing to drop them after i complete them, which will be in a few months.

Yes, if you are signing the contract then you have to obey this rule. If you are not following the instruction in the contract. Then they will take the legal action against you. My advice to you either you drop the job or follow the rules.
