  • Penalised for being ill

I was sent home from work for being ill a few weeks ago as it was decided that I was clearly too I'll to do my job that day. Now they are putting it down as an unauthorised absence and I am risking getting a disciplinary. I had been late to work two times previous to this (about 7 minutes in total) do I have any right to appeal this as I think it is very unreasonable as I was sent home.

Note: was only absent for the one day, which was the rest of the day in which I was sent home

      Hi,
Your company will be wrong to try to issue disciplinary action for you being unwell.
If you was sent home, then the absence cannot be unauthorised.
You should point this out to your manager.
If your illness lasted four days or more then you need to complete a 'Self Certification' form, available from your Doctor's surgery.
Or download one from the attached file and if need be, keep it handy for next time.
As for being late, if it is consistent then the company have the right to investigate and if necessary issue disciplinary action.
It all depends on company procedures, which you should ask them for a copy off.
You cannot appeal anything, unless and until the company do take action against you.
However, if you are not happy with comments made by your company, then you can start, what is known as , a Grievance Procedure'.
Again, you really need to obtain copies of this and any Appeal Procedure.
Let me know how you get on.
      Good luck.aw:
