  • Medical condition - How to proceed?

    Hi
I joined my current job 2 years ago. I work in a place where I have to walk long distances indoor and standing up sometimes for more than an hour.

I have a problem in my ankle that doesn't let me stand for long periods of time. Even though for this two years I could work fine.

Now a new area at work has been opened and my ankle is suffering to the point of having sick days.

I had this condition since before I joined the company.

What are my options? Can I ask my employer not to perform that task and offer an alternative duty? Can they fire me if I take a not from my GP saying that I can't walk long distances? Whats the best procedure in this case?

    Thanks for you help,

    Julian.

Obviously get a letter from your doctor confirming your ailment.
The next thing would be to seek a meeting with your manager to discuss the problems you are having, now the workplace has altered.
Request that alternative work or help, be given to you, if it is available.
The link given by wombats will be of great use to you.
