  • Advice needed for threatened demotion

Can my employer demote me if i don't do a refresher first aid course , I'm supposed to do it Monday but my fiancée's grandfather has died and the funeral is Monday... i gave him 7 days notice but he's saying that he'll have to demote me as a supervisor, if i go to the funeral, as a supervisor needs to be first aid trained , but there's another supervisor who isn't first aid trained and has worked in the same supervisory role as me for 2 years and gets the same pay rate as me
