    CCTV 'Gawper'

    I young man posed this question to our voluntary youth helpline.

    I always go to the same London bus stop to catch the bus home. On one recent occasion I was approached by two plain-clothes police officers who told me that I have been observed gawping at a nearby CCTV camera which they said was an offence. They searched me and took down my name and address etc and told me not to do it again 'or else'. I was actually looking at a group of starlings, but is it an offence to look at a CCTV camera? Will that information be held on file? Could it be disclosed if, as intended, I change my job to one requiring a CRB?

    No its not an offence - Did he get the officers numbers, did they show him their warrant cards? He should make a complaint about it as it could be an unlawful stop and search. Or as they were in plain clothes, it may be that they were not police officers at all, which would be very serious.

      First I would try and get a copy of that cctv as it is evidence,complain to who ever will listen,there must be 10`s of organisations that fight this kind of wrong doing...and then I would get as many people as i could,maybe even one of those face book organised events i hear about... and go and stare out that camera.And even film it too...and film any bully boy cops that turn up and try and BS a situation.Film everything,they can,so you can.

          Awwww...But why?, the police were unreasonable and deserve the attention,its just not fair....OK, so not so confrontational would be more sensible? So how about a FB page dedicated to pictures of CCTV cameras,with captions like "caught this cheeky one eyeing me up today" (location and time) wrongfully arrested Yes/No... just harassed Yes/No...ect... and did you at the camera ,just to wind them up,you know it would lol....Sorry,gone silly again with the last bit...the rest seems sensible tho...sort of,well, to me...lol.
