Hi all,
My girlfriend and i are expecting our second child on the 21st of November, its a little difficult at work for getting time off (manager/owner is disinterested in the second company of which i and 3 others work) and with me working 4 on 4 off shifts i thought it would be better if i booked 8 days off work which would total 20 days off (which is handy) rather than having paternity leave and a) losing a lot of money through having to have paternity pay and b) the hassle of getting away from work if im needed as i would have to contact my manger and await covering staff and if im on nights i would have little chance of that happening.
so with my holidays put in for all is looking good, however my family are now going away for Christmas week and my myself and my girlfriend rely on them a fair bit so i have been looking into taking a week off around Christmas as paternity leave, from what i have read on directgov this seems to be fine, as its within the 8 week period from giving birth, now as i said before my manager doesn't like spending out on covering staff and my position will have to be filled for any time off, he has also said that holidays over Christmas are not allowed but i guess this wouldnt be a holiday.
so i would like to know if i put in for a weeks paternity from the 23rd December to 29th December (of which i would be scheduled to work 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th that this would be ok to do?
