Hi guys, hope you can help me with my issue.
Its kinda complicated so i'll keep it as simple as i can, here goes :
At work different jobs are paid at off a piece rate system differing rates from 67% of the overall rate to 100% (roughly £6.70 to £10 p/h).
In my area we are on the lowest 67% rate but at the moment due to shortages in staff there are opportunites for some of us to be trained up and work on the 100% jobs.
However the company are saying that only those employees who started with the company before July 2003 are eligible to be paid the higher rate. I started in August 2003 so can be trained on the job but will not recieve the higher rate of pay.
Is this legal, i've been told that its simply a cut off date and depending on when you started you get the higher rate or not.
However i think its more to do with the contracts issued after that date but can anyone confirm if they can pay differently purely based on start date as they are saying.
Cheers.
