  • Disciplinary Hearing

I work for a security company, and was employed, on nights, in a residential tower block. I witnessed a fracas in a lift and told the officer in the opposite tower. Later I went over to view the tape and retrieve a 'still' of the person who had allegedly robbed the victim of a wallet full of money.

The victim was a 'gay' and the robber was what seems to be known as a 'rent boy'. I remarked, about the rent boy, that 'I hated those shirtlifting scum' - a direct reference to the so called 'rent boy'. The officer that I said this to was himself 'gay' and reported it to the office as a slight against all gays, which it wasn't.

Now, lets assume the worst and the company use it as an excuse to get rid of me as they are overloaded in my particular department. Firstly my comment was not an insult to someone I thought a friend and secondly, it is my MORAL belief that people who sell their bodies for sexual favours and cash are immoral and currupt.

They have retained officers in the past for far worse than this petty little thing, but I feel that they will use this against me. I need legal representation but who do I ask, I have no mnoey for lawyers.

I have to attend on monday morning next. Its also true that all the good I have done, and the creditable reports from clients means nothing as they always remember the bad, not the good.

No, there has never been a need - until now. I am going to ring ACAS now to see what they say.

I have spoken to ACAS and they said that the remark I made was technically offensive to the hearer but accept that it was not meant to the 'community' in general. It is all down to how the boss wants to get rid of me I suppose. I do have the right of appeal and should contact ACAS again in that event.
