Can you be unfairly made redundant if you had been at company 4 months when they said that they were ceasing trading so they were making me redundant but I think the company is still running and there website is still live and when I called them they still seemed to be at the same address they said they were selling the goodwill of the company to one of there customers a larger printer. help much appreciated.

I guess the answer is Yes/Maybe.
You dont have a lot of rights after only 4 months, and it may depend on your contract and/or probationary period (this is usually 3-6months) so they can perty much do as they like.
Ceased trading - they may be running under administration eg if they owe money to Banks or other creditors an Administrator may have taken over - they should answer the phone as "xxxxxx under Administration" technically - but a lot of companies dont do it (or know about it).
Personally I would say move on its not worth the hassle, time or potential expense for what you are likely to receive.

I was told I had a 3 month probation so I was past that and when I called them today he still uses the same number but he did say they work from Witham and he said he would only be there for a month to handover to the new company not 4 months after so I don't believe he has ceased the company like he said he was but I suppose you could be right it is a lot of hassle but what could claim for if I did
pursue it as i am pretty desperate. thanks for your quick reply

Not a lot really.
Redudancy payment is 1 week per full year of service to a max of about £250/week i think (top of head)
So technically you wouldnt qualify for that - what did he give you a weeks notice?
Is there anyone else doing the job you did? Who had been there longer? Did he give notice? How big is the firm - thats mainly whether anyone else could have assumed your duties?
The list goes on, he only has to show that your services are no longer required for a redundancy to be valid, and if there are trading difficulties, such as cash flow, he may well be validated in making you redundant.
Sorry its not a better response for you - other people may have a different view.
