  • Job threat after internal re-org

PLEASE IGNORE SIMILAR POST ABOVE, I HAD PROBLEMS WITH CUT AND PASTE AND CAN"T SEEM TO DELETE IT. APOLOGIES

Morning, I currently work in Technology in a Tier 1 UK bank. I have 6 years permanent service.

I am advised I will be moving divisions on March 1st into an area that is currently going through a reorganisation with job threats.

In addition, the person that I am to work for in the new area is working his 6 months notice and will only have 19 days left in the organisation before he exits. We do not get on.

I am concerned that I may be put at risk very quickly after transfer and also concerned that a person exiting the organisation may have significant influence on my job security very late in his tenure.

Is there any employment law that protects you if transferred then quickly put at risk?

    Many thanks

What is the reason you have been given for you being transferred into a division that is going through a reorganisation?

I do not provide advice by PM although I may on occasion ask you to send me documents this way but any related advice will be provided back on your thread.

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.

Their rationale is that they are moving me, my team and budget as part of a bank wide strategy to move technology functions into the correct operational/business functions.

All I am aware of is that since 6 April 2024 redundancy rules came into effect which give priority protection to employees on maternity, adoption and shared parental leave (SPL). The changes meant that the period of priority protection extended to 18 months and applies to pregnant employees from the day they notify their employer of their pregnancy.

Oher than that, then an employer needs to show they followed a fair and reasonable redundancy process. If you are put at risk and if you have concerns about the objectivity of your manager, if they are involved in the process, then you need to raise that at the time.
