I have worked in education since 2009 and my social media accounts are locked private. Today I did a social media check using a platform for a new job assuming, as always, it would be fine. The platform asked me to change my Instagram to a creator account which I thought odd. I was shocked when the report came back with hate speech (a post about a Black Dyke Mills band concert) nudity (a michaelangelo exhibition) amd other flags. My concern is how on earth my FB account was also accessed? Is it because they are linked? This feels like an invasion of my privacy as the account was locked prior (with the padlock symbol) as it is now after I changed it back.

Just to add, Ive used the interactive part of the report, clicked on the source of one of the flagged posts and it takes me to the post on my Facebook which clearly shows the audience as friends. -
jorainbow not sure this is actually an employment law issue at this moment. In the first instance this seems more about how social media accounts are interlinked.

Thank you. It around the use of social media checks and the use in schools when recruiting. I got some advice from HR professionals working in schools and the response was no they are not to be used in this way and definitely not by accessing private accounts. It should be what is in the public domain only. Not necessarily law so appreciate the responses but definitely poor practice.Comment

PallasAthena neither have I am a bit of a social media luddite just do not have the time to be honest.
jorainbow I know that some companies/recruiters do look at a prospective employee's/candidate's social media presence but as far as I know that should only be what is in the public domain, how else would they be able to see what the person has been posting.

Isn't this about the use of AI and lack of intelligent human input in relation to posts on social media? I can see how the words "black" and "dyke" put together will fall foul of these systems. Facebook refused to allow a photo I took of a piece of public art in Edinburgh, citing nudity.Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. they should provide all the data on the accounts (you can do this online) -

If your accounts have been hacked, then lodge complaints with social media companies.
