An agent for an employer sent a contract variation letter asking the employee to sign, date and return said letter. At the date that the employee signed and dated the letter the agent was no longer employed by the organisation. What are the consequences of this. Presumably at the date of signing both parties needed legally capacity to take part in the contract?

Did the employee return the document he had signed? If so, to whom? Was there any reply?
In the absence of further information, my analysis is that the document was sent on behalf of the employer by its agent, and signed (and presumably) returned by the employee. That points to binding agreement.
That view may change in the light of further information.Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.
