  • Current Precautionary Suspension - impact on a new job reference request

    Hi all,

I am currently suspended from work on a precautionary basis whilst an investigation is ongoing. This has been ongoing for almost 6 weeks and regardless of the outcome of the investigation and any subsequent Disciplinary Panel I don’t feel I would be able to return to my job or employment. I have applied for and think I am about to be offered a job elsewhere. This job does not include any areas or responsibilities linked to the reasons for my precautionary suspension.

When applying for the job it stated clearly that I had to disclose any safeguarding issues and whether I had ever received disciplinary action related to this. I said no, which is completely true and is not in any way related to the reasons for my precautionary suspension.

I know that if I am offered the job they will approach my current employer for a reference. I presume it will ask normal stuff about my abilities etc and I assume also a section about safeguarding and disciplinary concerns/issues. However, as I am still only precautionally suspended will this be disclosed here? At this stage there is no disciplinary action to note?

I plan to email my current boss should I get the job and advise him if my reasons for seeking a new post plus advising the new role does not involve any responsibilities linked to my suspension so that he isn’t out in a position where ge could be providing a reference which is damaging in any way to my prospective new employer.

If I do get the role and resign from my current job during the precautionary suspension and ongoing investigation what happens with this? Dues it continue in my absence as such it will it end with the end if my employment?

thanks so much for any advice,
    P

Surely suspension is part of a disciplinary procedure. You would be naive to think it would not be mentioned.
