At least your husband had a productive call and now knows the timescales when he can get the information he needs to make his claim.

Just thought I would update this thread. We received the CN number on 23 January. We submitted a claim to the RPS on Saturday 25th February. On Monday 3 February my husband received an email confirming that his claim for redundancy and arrears of pay had been assessed and would be paid to him in the next 10 days. They didn't address holiday pay owed in the letter for some reason but they do say they may look at each element separately. Other ex employees who applied on the 23 January, have had the same email a couple of days earlier and one has received his money today.
So whilst it all felt very stressful and uncertain at the time, I have to say that we can't fault HM Government for the speed of dealing with this.
Hope this helps anyone else in a similar position.
Thanks to all who provided advice along the way.
