  • Breach of confidentiality

It’s 3:00 am and I’m losing sleep over this.
i have been invited to a ‘fact finding’ meeting at work for alleged misappropriation of funds.
Im not really bothered about attending this meeting because i have nothing to hide. The reason that I’m losing sleep is because for the past year i have heard rumours, lies, defamation and slander spread about my integrity and my character at my workplace. It seems to me that all of this has been going on in the background and everyone in the office was aware of it but me.
Is this a breach of confidentiality if my employer made everyone in the office aware of this investigation or if someone from HR told someone who spread it to everyone else before it actually became official that there is an investigation?

I've emphasised the most important word in that sentence. Yes, if HR had told people who had no legitimate reason to know then it would be a breach of confidentiality. But in the absence of any actual evidence that has happened there isn't a lot you can do.

How else would everyone have found out? Isn’t it enough that they all know?

I don't know anything about your workplace so no idea how other employees could know you were facing disciplinary investigation. If they know that is - maybe just gossip and guesswork? But 'how would they know unless there was a breach of confidentiaoity' is not evidence of a breach. Purely speculation by you.

You’re right. It makes sense what you’re saying. For it to have been a breach of confidentiality, would the source of the rumours have to have been HR or could it be anyone else who was involved in the investigation?

Your guess is as good as PallasAthena's.
