  • Written warning to new employer

    Hello all.

    A quick one here.

If 'one' was successful in a new job at a new company and they said they need to contact ones current employer for reference etc, if one was on a 12 month written warning, are they allowed to tell the new employer that said person is currently on this written warning?

    Thanks

Typically employers these days just provide factual references which set out start date, end date and job title. This avoids an employer being accused of giving a bad reference.

Some industry/sectors do require more detailed references from the last employer and a questions about recent disciplinary action may be asked. However, it is not something I have seen asked on a general reference for a few years now.

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.
