I work for a company that has said that due to staffing costs and a new management structure my role is surplus to requirements so I’m facing redundancy. They’ve said I can apply for an alternative role that is virtually the same as the old role with just a couple of added duties and a name change. I’m not the only person this applies to, but I just wondered what happened if I either said I didn’t want the job or applied for the job and didn’t get it

If the job was deemed to be a suitable alternative and you were offered the position which you refused to accept then potentially your employer can refuse to pay your redundancy pay if they do not think you have a good reason for turning down the job.
If you did not get offered the job and there was no other alternative suitable position to offer you then the redundancy process will continue and your employment terminated.
