  • Personal Improvement Plan

    Good afternoon

After 12 years at my current employer, my new boss has put me on a PIP. Reading HR articles on Linked In, many people are saying that only 1 in 4 get through the other side of a PIP as employees use this as a tool to get rid of employees.

I would be interested in your thoughts. I have a PIP review on Tuesday so any questions that you feel relevant to ask would be appreciated.

    Thank you

Are you meeting the objectives that have been set for you? Is your performance measurably improving?

      Thanks for your reply.

There are a couple of issues one was an oversight on my side. I just feel that there is very little room for error. The company has very much worked as a family business for years and my new boss is from a blue chip company with different ways or working.

You make it sound as though you've been able to get away with soft-pedalling for years, and now a new boss has arrived, it's been noticed.

          Hi
Please read the article at http://www.scienceofpeople.com/perfo...provement-plan

I suspect the manager will ask you the question how do you think you can improve your performance. You should be ready to answer this question

          Consider:
          time keeping
availability for overtime in busy periods
organisation, keeping a diary so meetings, phone calls etc aren't forgotten, a tidy desk and filing up-to-date
training, in the office and external courses
working conditions, employees work more efficiently when they are not too hot, cold and have ventilation
tools for the job. You will work faster if you have a computer instead of that old typewriter
communication. drafting letters and emails effectively, politeness to customers, other employees on the telephone
regular face-to-face meetings with your manager

Just a selection of the topics to talk about. The manager will be reaching for his bottle of whisky at the end
