Yes it is wrong on the company's part but it is down to considering what outcome you want.

You have to decide if you want to do anything about it but that will mean you investing time by complaining to the company then depending on the outcome make a complaint to the ICO.

If you would like a one-to-one expert consultation with me on your employment issue than I can be contacted by emailing admin@legalbeaglesgroup.com

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.
If you have any doubts then do please seek professional legal advice.

Ideally I’d like to, just to even make them aware of the distress etc this has caused me, and to find out why they contacted my father, but not me, surely i would be the point of contact for all of this, but the fact I left the company 3 weeks ago I would assume means the matter is dead. It just kind of felt like telling tales on me to my father, to what end? I’d just really like to know why that happened. With my father going through cancer, and him being a legend for want of a better word in that company, he has no basically washed his hands of me and doesn’t want to see or hear from me until his cancer treatment etc is done, that could be months, so I feel like my ex employer has put the boot in so to speak. It’s just very frustrating as has added to my already high level of stress over it all.

Sorry to be a further pain, I have looked up the company’s website and there isn’t a privacy policy etc anywhere on it. I have the contact details of the girl I dealt with in HR, would that be the person to send the completed ICO temtplate to rather then the MD directly?

If the company you worked for processed personal data then they must have a detailed privacy policy which usually is on the website. If not then you may have to request in and in which case yes go to HR to request this.
