I was (and still am) employed by a small company several years ago - at that time I was their only employee. From before the time I was employed I was promised I would be given additional training that would allow me to take on a particular, more complex task which was currently being dealt with by one of the company's directors (who was also my line manager). This training, I was told would, take place soon and lead to an increase in hours to deal with the increased workload. Despite reminding the director/line manager of the promise of additional training I was told that they currently had no time to devote to training. I continued to remind the director/line manager of the promise over months and then years and was told each time that there was no time for any training. After appox. three years of these back and forths I discovered through an email thread that the task for which I was promised training and additional hours, was now being carried out, not by my line manager, but by their daughter who had now reached working age. Clearly (as these were very particular tasks peculiar to this company) he had found time to train her whilst informing me that there was no such time available. Discrimination or just tough luck?
Is this discrimination in the workplace, something else, or just tough luck.

On what basis do you think your employer might have discriminated against you? Is there something about you that you think is behind the employer's actions?
