  • Failed police vetting due to 'third party'

Good evening. I was searching the internet and found a similar post to this one although it was from 2017. Im just looking for bit of advice really if anybody can give me any because I'm still irritated over this issue. I applied for a CSI role back in May 2022. I had my interview in Nov 22 and was successful at interview. However a couple of weeks after completing my vetting application, i was notified that i had been unsuccessful following vetting checks. i was asked if i wanted to appeal which i did as i believe i have no reason whatsoever to be declined vetting as me or my family have never ever been in any sort of trouble with the police. The next day, a senior office from the vetting unit phoned me. He explained if i was to fail vetting due to an issue to do with myself, then he could tell me the reason, and i would be able to appeal it on the information that had been provided to me.

However, if you fail due to a third party, and want to appeal it then it goes straight up to the main officers in the force and they make the decision. The reason for this is due to data protection, as its a third party, they could give many information on who, who, what the reason was for my failed vetting. Which i think is absolutely outrageous!! So as i have no information to appeal against, my appeal is going no further. I have put in a complaint to the police force which again didnt make a difference. I requested a SAR from the police force to see if that could give me any sort of insight as to what it could be. On there was an issue that wasnt me, it wasnt my name and i had never ever been to the place in question. After contacting the individual that sent me the SAR she emailed me back apologising that this was sent in error? But thats beaching data protection? It all just seems odd to me.

I think its so wrong. I graduated from university in 2015 with my BSc Honours in forensic science and been trying ever since to secure a role in CSI failing interviews for years and years. I finally pass an interview and now my career has been snatched from me before its even started?? I'm in all that debt with student finance and for what??? Could i do anything about this? As the police are saying all avenues have now been exhausted for appeal and basically thats it. its over?? Could i take this further? because i think its ridiculous and theres definitely something not adding up? Thanks!

Did you appeal to the main office as suggested given that it was a third party issue?

If there was an issue on the SAR not related to you have you confirmed that the rest of the information provided was correct and that there is no other information that they should disclose as part of your SAR request?

Also what did you ask in your SAR request as these need to be very specific as to the information you are wanting to get.
If you would like a one-to-one expert consultation with me on your employment issue than I can be contacted by emailing admin@legalbeaglesgroup.com

I do not provide advice by PM although I may on occasion ask you to send me documents this way but any related advice will be provided back on your thread.

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.

Thankyou for your reply! Yes I did everything as mentioned above. But they said there will be no further communication from vetting to myself as they cannot disclose any information. I just can’t believe it. I feel completely let down. I have lost all faith and trust in my local police force. As sad as it sounds!

As hard as it is, the honest truth is there is nothing at all you can do. Trust me I was in the same boat, tried everything but nothing worked at all.
