Hi I've worked for a company for 20 years I made a mistake and took home a service users shopping money home with me with out knowing when they contacted me I was on holiday but as soon as I realised I said I had it and apologised I then handed in my notice straight away. I did have to give 3 months but my boss offered said I could go straight away so I agreed as my mental health is very bad . I had to arrange for my service manager to come bring my belongings back to me in exchange for the money and paper work etc I had. I was then informed that I was going to be investigated by work and that I would receive a letter and would be asked to go. The question is do I have to go and does my resignation stand

Sounds like the OP is a carer or similar. If so such a mistake may be fundamental, and there may be a possibilty of further career limiting action.
There may be no obligation to take part, but I suggest a good strong explanation be submitted as a minimum.
Legal advice from someone with the full story may be needed.
