It started off with a friend was dying of cancer last year and only gave 6 months to live, so I organised a fundraiser to give them a holiday to make memories with her 2 children, sadly she died before it got to that, so we was planning to give them a holiday to remember their mum by, but again her hubby wouldn’t take the time off work, so I was left with the money raised so was asking for the kids birth certificate to set up a trust fund, I was denied their birth certificates.
I have now received an email from a solicitor saying the money was raised for the children and I have misused the funds, but I did try but I’m not handing over the money for the family to spend.
I would like to donate the money to a cancer charity now, where do I stand, it’s making me upset, no money was never raised for the children it was all for a holiday for them all to remember their mum at the year anniversary of her death.

That was a kind thing to do. Was it through an official platform? You could ask for the money to all be returned if so.

Thankyou, but I do wish I never bothered now.
No, not through an official platform, just a fun day and people were just amazing.

I think you need to consider the purpose for which the money was raised, and put it to something as close to that as possible. I suggest that you respond to the solicitor reminding him that you wanted to open a trust account but were not provided documents to assist.
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf

Do you have verified records of how much was raised? I agree write back to the solicitor and explain that the money is still available and that you have tried to donate it to a trust fund for the children but that the husband will not provide the birth certificates you need. The most important thing is that you show that you have not behaved in any way improperly and that the money is still waiting to be given to the appropriate people/charity.

                Very unfortunate.
Keep any documentation you might have from raising the funds.
                Making several assumptions . .
Money raised for a particular family is not charitable as such.
You did the right thing trying to set up a trust for the children instead, but paying it to the father may be the best thing to do
