  • Not offered a job as am 'wrong profile'

Hi, I recently applied for an internal sideways rotation. Same level of role , same responsibilities just working with a different client.

I tick all the boxes in the job advert of 'what are we looking for.' I am one of the highest graded managers in our business with a 5 out of 5 on my PDR and I achieved the highest grading in our 5 business competencies.

Yet I have been declined the role, not even offered an interview as "we are working with the client to bring in a certain profile of manager."

No mention of this in the job ad, recruiting manager wont give me any more detail and wont tell me the type of profile they are after. I asked if it is age or gender and told no.

Do I have grounds to challenge or grievance this? I just want an honest and more detailed reason why I wasn't even given an interview.

    Thanks

    Hi PENNINE1

You would think they would want to encourage your personal development by providing feedback. In providing 'insufficient' feedback, that doesn't help you.

You've raised the matter informally, you can raise a formal grievance, with managers and HR, they will arrange a meeting, which might establish why you didn't get the post or any meaningful feedback. It's always a difficult one, but you need to be pro active.

If this is a role that has a great deal of interaction with a specific client then often there is some level of input from the client as to the role profile.

That being said I agree with echat11 that feedback on why your application did not proceed would be helpful in terms of your development.

If you have tried to deal with this informally then the next step could either be to raise this with a more senior member of management or via a formal grievance.
