  • equal pay query - where to start

    hello thanks for reading.

I have been with my current employer for 4 years. I work as part of a group of 4 senior managers at a University who do the same job but I've just discovered that I am paid several thousands of pounds less than at least 2 of my colleagues and perhaps all 3 of them.

I am a protected characteristic, and am significantly more experienced with a better track record than all of them (sorry to sound big headed!).
I'm quite dismayed and would like to approach HR to confirm this situation and put in train a process of pay parity and some kind of compensation.

Any advice gratefully received, what is my best approach?

    Maddy.

Are you wanting to raise an equal pay claim i.e the "comparators" (the other two colleagues who must work directly for the university) are of the opposite sex to you and do 'equal work' (work that equal pay law classes as the same, similar, equivalent or of equal value)?

If so then I suggest that you start by raising this informally with HR, if the issue cannot be remedied informally then the next stage would be to raise a formal grievance in accordance with the university's policy. Failing that then it would be starting the process of an Employment Tribunal claim which commences with engaging in the Early Conciliation process with ACAS.
If you would like a one-to-one expert consultation with me on your employment issue than I can be contacted by emailing admin@legalbeaglesgroup.com

I do not provide advice by PM although I may on occasion ask you to send me documents this way but any related advice will be provided back on your thread.

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.
If you have any doubts then do please seek professional legal advice.
