Offer of employment paused

Afternoon

Was offered a 6 month fixed term post to start next week.
was initially conditional upon satsfactory checks and the offered.
today have received an email saying the post has bwe put on hold and they dont know for how long.
Do i have any recourse to this as i had been offered a post and declined it due to starting this job

If the job offer was made and you responded with your acceptance then a contract was created at that point. If you met all the conditions required of them after the conditional offer has been made and accepted and the job has been withdrawn then potentially you would be entitled to take legal action against the employer for breach of contract.

However this type of action has to be taken via the civil courts and not the employment tribunal for which there would be a fee to lodge the claim and you would need to be able to prove financial losses have resulted from that breach.
