Someone I know has handed their notice in because they were really unhappy with the way they were being treated at work. They were slowly being stripped of their responsibilities as manager. I believe it was a form of constructive dismissals they had somebody else that they wanted to give the job to. However this is not my point. The person managed to arrange their first appraisal (they had been there a year) and things seemed to be smoothed over. However it just got worse after that and eventually they have handed in their notice. The business is closed for a fortnight after Xmas which meant only 2 weeks to work it out and they then signed off sick as the whole thing had become intolerable. They sent a resignation letter and then followed this up with a Sick note. No reply until now. The employer has just sent the 'Notes' from the appraisal and has titled it Appraisal and Disciplinary. It was NOT a Disciplinary as nothing formal was done. Can anyone advise as to why she would be doing this. She is a snake in the grass and I do not trust her one bit!!

Can you confirm how long the person has been employed at the company?

Given what you have said and what I can work out, your friend has two weeks left of their notice period to work once the business reopened after Christmas, which takes them to Fri 21 Jan and this is covered by a sick note.
An appraisal should not be turned into a disciplinary. There may be some issues for improvement raised at an appraisal but not to the extent that warrents disciplinary action. If disciplinary action is to be considered then this should have been dealt with separately. I cannot therefore provide an answer as to the employer's motive considering your friend had handed in their notice.
