  • Long Covid

I was very Ill with Covid in January and ended up in hospital. I have now got long Covid, I have poor lung capacity, frequent respiratory infections, pain, brain fog and extreme exhaustion. I had to return to work in July as could not afford to stay off, I have been on a phased return via OH. Prior to Covid I was classed as clinically vulnerable working from home. I am a social worker which when I am in office requires me to do home visits. Due to illness I have not yet had my 2nd vaccination. My employer is now saying I must return to the office and do home visits despite OH clearly stating I am fit to work from home but no on-site working. I am feeling really pressured to return but employer insists that it is the needs of the service why I have to return. Surely a precedent has been set when clinically vulnerable were told to stay home or in my case WFH. Due to my breathing I am unable to wear a mask meaning I am very vulnerable to getting Covid again. My union rep is useless I asked him to speak to union solicitor for advice but he said it is too early for that.
I wrote to my service manager asking what her rationale was for telling me to ignore OH but she just replied saying it was needs of the service. My manager who is really supportive had a mtg with SM and HR who were asking her if she thought I would take early retirement which I can’t afford to do.

Echat11 was asking a colleague (ULA) to look at your post and see if she could assist.

Sorry to hear you have been suffering with long Covid. I think there are many employers now having to understand how they handle this situation. There are no precedents for it other than looking to their current processes for managing someone who has been off on long term sickness and how to assist them to return to work.

How long ago did you have your OH appointment and what were the main recommendations from the report? It would be useful to know that information even very broadly, if you are happy to share, to see how to help you.

Do you feel you are ready/able to return to work if the recommendation/s from OH were to be implemented?
If you would like a one-to-one expert consultation with me on your employment issue than I can be contacted by emailing admin@legalbeaglesgroup.com

I do not provide advice by PM although I may on occasion ask you to send me documents this way but any related advice will be provided back on your thread.

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.
