1 week notice of working pattern changes

Does my employer need to state what my new working pattern will be for it to count as notice, or can they simply say "the working pattern will probably change on this date"?
I work regular, predictable hours in a factory.

Firstly look at Terms and Conditions of your contract of employment.

Look at your contract, if you need to be asked to change times. If not and the employer is saying there will be a change in the work pattern, you and your boss need to both agree to the new times and update your contract to new times. Otherwise it goes against your agreed contract.
