  • New employer requires all my medical history

    Hi.
I'm applying for a new job and I've now been asked for me to contact my doctor for him to send them all my medical records.
    Is this correct?
    Many thanks

Has a job offer been made to you and if so is it conditional upon satisfactory health checks or medical questionnaires?

Thank you Ula for your reply.
Im pretty sure I've secured the job but have never been asked to contact my doctor to get all my medical records.
Although I filled in a medical questionnaire, they now require the above.
      Thank you.

Was there anything in the medical questionnaire that may have given your perspective employer cause for concern?

          I don't think so Ula.
Its occupational health that are asking for the records and I suppose they will then forward them to the prospective employer.
I would be working in a home with people who have learning difficulties so maybe this is why they need to be so vigilant.

My caution relates to Section 60 of the Equality Act 2010 which allows pre-employment health enquiries for certain specified reasons. Perhaps the most useful of these is where the questions are necessary to establish whether you can can carry out a function that is intrinsic to the work for which you are being offered the job and the questions should only relate to your ability to perform the core duties of that role.

Also any information that they do get on your medical history should not then result in a withdrawal of an offer based on any discriminatory grounds e.g. disability.

Also wanting your full medical history seems very broad and for you may involve the GP charging you a fee to provide this information.
