  • Reported colleague for breach of policy

By chance, I stumbled across a colleagues Twitter account and found several comments which I believe are highly offensive and racists. This person does not list their employer on their account but they do on other social media sites and on Twitter they share stuff from the company.

The company has an equal ops policy but nothing I could find on diversity and inclusion so I made the decision to report this person for breach of the social media policy.

This was over a month ago and I've now been asked to have a meeting with HR to discuss. I've avoided looking at the social media account until today where I can see the same messages are still there and this person has in fact posted more horrible things. It's probably very naughty of me but I also checked this person's diary and they've had nothing in there indicating they have had a meeting with HR.

I feel like a month is too long for HR to decide to ask me for more information especially as I was already told they needed nothing else from me. What are the chances that I'm going to get some trouble over this and, if I do, what are my rights?

It probably says a lot about the company that I'm worried that this is a possibility sadly.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what is going to happen.

Ideally an investigation should be started as soon as possible after an incident has been reported. I think you will just need to go to the meeting and see what happens and we are here if anything untoward happens.
If you would like a one-to-one expert consultation with me on your employment issue than I can be contacted by emailing admin@legalbeaglesgroup.com

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.
If you have any doubts then do please seek professional legal advice.
