  • Notice period and new job

Hi guys and thanks in advance for the advice

I have excepted a new job in a different division of the company I work for and as per my contract I have worked 3 months notice

i’ve been informed today I have to work another month and as they have the same parent company it’s affectively an internal transfer and there’s nothing I can do, a contract extension will be issued

    does this sound legal?

Sorry I just need to understand this correctly.

You are making an internal transfer to a new job in a different division of a large company. If you had been leaving the company your notice period would be 3 months, however you are now being told as the transfer is internal you need to work an extra month in your old job before moving to the new job in another division.

If this is a correct understanding, does the company have a policy regarding internal transfers? I have worked in a large company where we had a policy of the time period over which an internal transfer took place, which depending on the contract of the staff member, could be different to the notice they were required to give if they left the business all together.

Have you spoken to someone in HR about this?

      Hi

      yes that is correct

all of the divisions are run a separate companies with different contracts and T’s + C’s, the main reason I am moving.

I’ve read the handbook and I'm not aware of a policy for internal transfers

i spoke to HR and all they have said is it’s come from a higher level so there’s nothing I can do

also, my old job was advertised with a higher salary than what I get, I’ve requested I get get that salary for the additional month.

      thanks
