  • Breach of confidentiality? Serious? Trust GDPR?

I wish I was writing here under more pleasant circumstances, however, I am facing disciplinary action at work.

I have not been in the work place for a couple of months.
It seems the employer wrote to me but the post didn't arrive.
When I didn't reply back (within 48 hours of sending it) they phoned up my wife on her mobile, while I was out shopping. (They tried me also but we have no signal in our Tesco).
My wife answered and they said: "We have a letter for your husband which we posted two days ago and we haven't heard back from him"
My wife said, "email it to me, and I will pass it on."

So they sent it to her. The letter contained private details regarding an investigation (and for all my employer knows, I may not have informed my wife, or we may have split up or anything.
Simple question really, is this a breach of trust/confidentiality?
