  • Urgent employment matter

Hi all. I have been offered a settlement agreement from my current employer and I need to respond, declining the offer and stating what I want but I’m not sure what I need to say. The letter from my employer has come from a solicitor but I’m representing myself as I can’t afford a solicitor.

If you have been offered a settlement agreement (SA) then the company has to allow you to take independent legal advice for which they have to pay towards the cost. This is typically between £300-£500 depending on the complexity of the issues that have brought about the SA. An SA for it to be valid has to be signed of by an independent employment law adviser who has acted on your behalf to consider whether what you have been offered is a "good deal" given the circumstance and if not then they would be responsible for negotiating on your behalf.

I do not provide advice by PM although I may on occasion ask you to send me documents this way but any related advice will be provided back on your thread.

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.
If you have any doubts then do please seek professional legal advice.
